Description	:	Evald Eugene Pouk, 83 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Evald was born February 27, 1934, at Rock Falls, Nebraska, one of seven children born to John Lewis and Ella Henrietta (Hinze) Pouk. Read More	Evald Eugene Pouk, 83 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Evald was born February 27, 1934, at Rock Falls, Nebraska, one of seven children born to John Lewis and Ella Henrietta (Hinze) Pouk. He received his primary education from Atlanta Public Schools, and then attended Mascot High School, graduating with the class of 1953. Following his education, he was inducted into the United States Army in 1957. He received his basic training at Fort Ord in California, and Fort Sam in Houston, Texas for medical training. After basic training, he was based at Fort Polk in Louisiana, and then Fort Hood in Texas. Following his service to his country, he was honorably discharged at the rank of Private First Class. Evald continued to serve in a Reserve capacity until 1962. On October 3, 1967, he was united in marriage to Ruby Francis Lieb at the Wilcox Methodist Church, and to this union four children were born: Laurie Ann, Angela Sue, Tammy Jean and Joseph Eugene. The family made their home in Holdrege. Evald worked for Del Pearson at Pearson’s Package Store, and then the Texaco Station for six years. He then began a long career in the sanitation business. He was employed for Allard Sanitation, which later became Orcutt Sanitation, where he was employed until his retirement in 1999. Throughout the years, Evald also enjoyed working for Rex Woollen on the farm southwest of Wilcox, Nebraska. Evald had a passion for building antique cars, he was always on the search for his next car he could rebuild and sell. He enjoyed mechanic work, and tinkering in his garage was his favorite pastime. Hobbies included: collecting model cars, riding motorcycles, camping, and cutting wood to burn. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. His great sense of humor and care-free demeanor will be missed. Besides his parents; Evald was preceded in death by his two brothers: Lloyd Lee Pouk and Rodney Pouk in infancy; sister, Marlene Pouk in infancy, and sister-in-law, Ann Pouk. He leaves to celebrate his life; his four children: Laurie Ziems and her husband, Scott of Kearney, Nebraska, Angela Marquardt and her husband, Scott of Holdrege, Tammy Burgeson and her husband, Heath of Kearney, and Joseph Pouk and his wife, Shanda of Holdrege; ten grandchildren; three brothers: Eldon Pouk and his wife, Carol, and Carroll Pouk and his wife, Mary all of Holdrege, and Dennis Pouk of Loomis, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Celebration of Life Services for Evald E. Pouk will be held at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Kenton Birtell officiating. Interment will be in the Oxford Cemetery at Oxford, Nebraska at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday with military honors provided by the Oxford American Legion Post #219 in conjunction with the United States Army Funeral Honors Team. The Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege is in charge of arrangements.
