We mourn her loss, oh, so much, yet we feel that just beyond our vision she has found rest, there to await the coming of her parents, sister and brothers; and by hope and trust we anticipate a joyous reunion. The withered leaves are falling thick Before the dying year, And grim November's howling blast Sweeps desolate and drear; But what to us is Nature's gloom, Though rugged, bleak and bare? These bleeding hearts are desolate, We mourn a vacant chair. In vain we scan that vacant seat, To see that darling's form, That shone upon lief's weary way Like sunshine 'mid the storm; In vain we seek that heavenly smile, That angel face so fair; It is as empty as our hearts, That silent, vacant chair. Our hearts are now a dismal void, A worthless, shattered urn. For her, the star that lit our lives, In darkness now we mourn. We know 'tis vain these bitter tears, This calm, this sad despair. For never, never, more she'll fill These empty hearts and chair, It is not that we would rebel 'Gainst him that rules on high, Or that we think he will not guard Her better far than we; But 'tis the cold, the bitter thought That haunts us everywhere, That death has made our hearts a grave, And left a vacant chair.
