Appleby was born Sept. 23, 1899 at Hopkinton, the daughter of Charles and Nellie Price Appleby. She received her early education in the Hopkinton schools. Evaline later worked at the Northwestern Bell Telephone office in Monticello. Evaline M. Appleby and Ralph C. Lambert were married Dec. 15, 1917 at Monticello. The couple operated Lambert's Cafe from 1927 to 1932. They later operated Lambert's Inn from 1932 to 1934. In 1934 they built the Monte Theater and operated it until 1945. Ralph died June 15, 1958. Evaline was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Monticello. She was also a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Pythian Sisters and the Royal Neighbors. She is survived by a son, Glenn Lambert of Olin, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and two sisters. Casketbearers were Donald Appleby, Glen Appleby, Roger Norman, Lavern Lambert, Dale Griffith and Richard Griffith. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, was in charge of the arrangements.
