Appleby passed away at the John McDonald hospital last Saturday evening, March 28, after a few days' illness of pneumonia, complicated with severe heart trouble. He was born on a farm seven miles from Cedar Rapids, February 7, 1904, and was a son of Charles and Nellie (Price) Appleby. His father's family removed to a farm near Worthington in 1906, and two years later came to Monticello, where the subject of this sketch had since lived. He was born on a farm seven miles from Cedar Rapids, February 7, 1904, and was a son of Charles and Nellie (Price) Appleby. His father's family removed to a farm near Worthington in 1906, and two years later came to Monticello, where the subject of this sketch had since lived. Mr. Appleby received his education in the Monticello public school. After leaving school he was employed on various farms until two years ago, when he secured employment with the Shomont Dairy. He had charge of the north side milk route, and gave the best of service for his employer. He was a regular in making his deliveries, and gave universal satisfaction to the people whom he served. The marriage of Mr. Appleby to Hazel Mundinger occurred September 19, 1925. Three children were born to this union, one of whom died at birth. The surviving children are Phyllis Mae and Glenn Melvin. In addition to these children and his widow, Mr. Appleby is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Appleby, five brothers, Clarence, Waldo, Aubrey, Claude of Monticello, and Robert, who is a soldier in the United States army, and is at present stationed at an army post in the Philippine Islands. Two sisters also survive, Mrs. Ralph (Evaline) Lambert and Mrs. Clarence (Rebecca) Griffith, both of Monticello. Funeral services for Mr. Appleby were held at the First Presbyterian church last Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. They were conducted by Rev. Leonard Duckett, and burial was made at Oakwood cemetery.
