Description	:	Evelyn Bessie Turpin, 87, of Mount Pleasant, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant. Born Feb. 28, 1916, in Malcom, she was the daughter of Rudolph and Bessie Tuttle Dohrn. On July 1, 1935, she married Emory Turpin in Lancaster, Mo. He died June 29, 1973. Mrs. Turpin worked as a waitress for a short time. She later worked at Thomas Art Co. in Marshalltown for 17 years as a plaster figurine finisher, retiring in 1964 when her eyesight began to fail. Read More	Evelyn Bessie Turpin, 87, of Mount Pleasant, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant. Born Feb. 28, 1916, in Malcom, she was the daughter of Rudolph and Bessie Tuttle Dohrn. On July 1, 1935, she married Emory Turpin in Lancaster, Mo. He died June 29, 1973. Mrs. Turpin worked as a waitress for a short time. She later worked at Thomas Art Co. in Marshalltown for 17 years as a plaster figurine finisher, retiring in 1964 when her eyesight began to fail. She attended school in Malcom. She lived in Marshalltown from 1940 until she moved to Mount Pleasant in 1976 to be near her daughter. She loved to read and go for walks. She was a former member of the Christian Church in Marshalltown, and was currently a member of First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant. Survivors include one daughter, Mary White of Mount Pleasant; three grandsons; and six great–grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents. One brother and by four sisters. Mrs. Turpin's body will be cremated. A graveside memorial service is being planned for later this month in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown. A memorial has been established for the Mount Pleasant Public Library for the purchase of large print books.
