Evelyn was born Jan. 29, 1917 in Story County, the daughter of Lloyd and Elva (Emerson) Young. She was a graduate of Shipley High School. Evelyn married Homer Thomas on Aug. 21, 1935 in Bethany, Mo. She was a cook at Milford School, a clerk in the Assessor's Office, helped her husband farm, but most of all a wonderful mother and grandmother. Evelyn was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nevada and enjoyed crocheting,knitting, sewing, and quilting. She was a lifelong resident of Story County. Evelyn is survived by one son, Raymond Thomas and his wife Barb of Nevada; two daughters, Rita Gonser and her husband John of Sequim, Wash. and Dixie Grindem and her husband John of Richardson, Texas; one sister, Dorothy Alexander of Marshalltown; one brother, Dale Young and his wife Pat of Glendale, Ariz.; eleven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
