Read More	EASTER CAR ACCIDENT BRINGS TRAGEDY TO MILLS COUNTY TWO EMERSON WOMEN, ONE GLENWOOD MAN KILLED SUNDAY Mills county's first acute accident fatalities for 1942 resulted Sunday afternoon from a head on collision of the Chrysler Coach driver by Warren Kauppel of Glenwood and a car driven by H. W. Shoop of Emerson. The crash occurred about two miles north of Glenwood on Highway 375 at about 1:45 p.m.. In the Shoop car wee Mrs. Shoop, their son, Jimmie, 9, and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Thomas of Emerson, Mrs. Thomas, 20, was killed instantly, Mrs. Shoop, 30, died a short time after reaching the Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, to which all were taken; Mr. Knuppel, 30, died shortly after midnight. The Kauppel car was said to have directly swerved directly in from of the Shoop car and the two vehicles truck with such force that both were telescoped. Mr. Thomas sustained a broken shoulder, broken leg, and body and head lacerations. Mr. Shoop had a cerebral concussion and serious head and body cuts and Jimmie had a broken leg, fractured wrist and face laceration. Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Emerson Baptist Church for Mrs. Thomas, conducted by the Rev. H. A. Foss. Rev Foss had officiated at the Thomas Wedding,is first after he had accepted the pastorate in Emerson and MRs. Thomas' funeral also was his first funeral in the community. Mrs. Thomas was born December 9, 1932 in Emerson, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Davis, attended the Emerson schools and was graduated with the class of 1940. She was united in marriage with Kenneth Thomas, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mersyl Thomas, December 26, 1941. Surviving are her parents who now live in Omaha and husband, two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Petersen of Denver, Colorado and Della Marie at home; five brothers, Jackie and Donald at home, Edwin of Glenwood, Roy of Emerson and Golden of Emerson. Funeral services for Mrs. Shoop will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Emerson Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband and son, her mother, Mrs. Minnie Allils Hanlon, and step father, Chet Hanlon, two step-sisters, Vera Mae and Leota Hanlon, two brothers, Ivan Heiman of Council Bluffs, and Ervin Heiman of Carson. Services for Mrs. Kauppel will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Raynor Chapel in Glenwood, conducted by the Rev. M. G. Parker. He is survived by his wife, their little daughter, Sylvia Rue, and his mother, Mrs. Eva Kauppel. Malvern Leader, Thursday, April 9, 1942, page 1 Evelyn Elizabeth Heiman,, daughter of Lewis Albert Hermann and Minnie Nee Briggs, was born November 22, 1911 in Oakland, Iowa. She was baptized in the Lutheran Fairt at St. Paul Lutheranchurch in Oakland, November 28,1912. She grew to womanhood on a farm owned by her parents seven miles northwest of Oaland. She attended high school at Carson. On the 25th day of August 1930, she was united in marriage to Harry Wooley of Griswold. To this union one son, James Richard was born. Later in life she was united in marriage to Homer Shoop of Emerson in Jul 1940. Evelyn was fatally injured in a head on auto collision Easter Sunday, April 5, 1942. She is survived by her son, James Richard, 10 years old; her husband Homer Shoop; her mother-in-law, Alta Shoop, all of Emerson, and her motherMrs. Minnie Hanlon and stepfather, Chester Hanlon, two sisters, Leota Maxine and Vera Mae Hanlon and two brothers, Ivan Albert Hermann of Council Bluffs, and Elvin Leonard Hermann of Carson and a host of other relatives and friends. She was well loved by all who knew her. She died at the age of 30 years, 4 months, and 15 days. Burial was in the Emerson Cemetery. Malvern Leader, Thursday, April 16, 1942, page 6
