Burial was in National Cemetery, Vining. Mrs. Konicek died Sunday, August 26, 2001 at Swedish Hospital, Englewood, Colorado after a short illness. Casket bearers were Gene Maule, Roger Yilek, Curtis Yilek, Mike Yilek, John Karkosh and Terry Karkosh. Judy Parizek was organist and Anna Upah was the vocalist. Evelyn E. Konicek was born November 27,1924 , at Elberon, Iowa the daughter of Emil and Mary Agnes Zeman Yilek. She married Ludwig E. Konicek August 16,1947 at Sterling, Colorado. They lived in the Fairfax and Amana areas following their marriage and she was employed at Amana Refrigeration for 20 years retiring in 1986. Evelyn lived in Tama for several years and was, employed at Sunny Hill Nursing Home for two years before moving to Colorado around 1995. She was baptized in the Catholic faith and was a 50 year member of the C.S.A. Lodge, Vining and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 2828, Tama. Konicek is survived by one brother, Duane A. Yilek and wife, Carol, Garwin; four sisters, Gladys Maule, What Cheer; Darlene Konicek and husband, George, Clutier; Vivian Karkosh, Toledo; and Imogene Taylor, Belle Plaine. She is also survived by one aunt, Ella Dolash, Tama; and many nieces and nephews and a special friend and brother-in-law, Lester Konicek, Denver, Colorado. Konicek was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ludwig, on June 9, 1983 and two brothers Vernon and Emil Yilek. A memorial fund has been established.
