Description	:	Evelyn H. Zimmerman, age 96 of Yankton passed away early Thursday morning, June 7, 2012 at the Avera Yankton Care Center, Yankton. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Friday, June 15, 2012 at the United Church of Christ (Congregational), Yankton with Rev. Rick Jensen officiating. Burial will be in the Crofton City Cemetery, Crofton, NE. Visitations will be from 5-9 PM, Thursday, June 14, 2012 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Evelyn H. Zimmerman, daughter of Robert and Hilda (Olson) Stewart, was born May 18, 1916, in rural Bloomfield, NE. Evelyn attended Crofton High School for 2 years then graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1935. Evelyn worked as a switchboard telephone operator and as a waitress at the Gurney Seed & Nursery Restaurant in Yankton. Evelyn met Elmer Zimmerman in high school and they were married in Vermillion, SD in 1939. After their marriage, they lived briefly in Buffalo, NY and Omaha, NE until Elmer was drafted into the Army. Twin sons, Dean and Dale, were born in 1942 in Omaha and were Evelyn's pride and joy throughout her life. In 1958 Evelyn started working at the Rexall Drug Store and worked there for 40 years until her retirement at age 82. Evelyn enjoyed dancing with Elmer, attending car shows, watching her sons' athletic events, spending time with her family and growing flowers in her yard. She was a member of the United Church of Christ (Congregational) in Yankton and participated in the sewing group there. Evelyn is survived by 2 sons, Dean (Gay) of Houston, TX, and Dale (Kristi) of Centennial, CO; 4 granddaughters: Jenifer Deakin of East Greenwich, RI, Leah (Tom) Huxtable of Colorado Springs, CO, Erika (Andrew) Henkart of Parker, CO, and Dedra (Joe) Merrill of Lafayette, CO; 7 great-grandchildren: James and Ashton Deakin, Collin and Emily Huxtable, Julia and Nathan Henkart and Tanner Merrill; one brother, Richard (Eileen) Stewart; one sister, Lucille Engebretson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Art and Marlene Reetz; sister-in-law Eloise Stewart and numerous nieces and nephews.
