Evelyn was born July 20. 1918, in rural Alton, the daughter of Aloysius and Ann (Wathier) Streff Sr. She was raised in the Alton area and received her education at St. Mary's Academy, from which she graduated in 1936. She then attended one year of business school in Sioux City, where she was then employed at an insurance company. On August 9, 1938, she married Bernard "Barney" Bindner at the Cathedral in Sioux City. The couple farmed near Granville, Iowa until 1969, when they moved into Alton. Evelyn worked at Wolf's Department Store in Sheldon, Iowa, from 1970 until the store closed in the early 1980's. Barney died November 29, 1999. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the church guild. She had an honorary lifetime membership in the Sioux Golf and Country Club in Alton. Evelyn enjoyed her family, which was her life. Survivors include two sons, Roger and Tim; a daughter, Linda; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arnold and Milo; and a sister, Clarice. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Al Streff Jr; and a sister Hazel Schumacher.
