Clarice Ann “Clay” Jonas passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming, with her loving children and their spouses nearby. She had been married for over 60 years to her dear husband, the late Aloysius Peter “Bud” Jonas who passed away on February 3, 2012. The youngest of six children, Clay was born in Alton, Iowa the daughter of Aloysius and Anna (Wathier) Streff. Growing up there she got into a bit of mischief such as burning down the outhouse, riding her brothers’ Harleys, and staying out too late at town dances with her best friend. After marrying Bud, Clay raised four children on the family farm near Alton. Her emphasis on family was made most apparent by the smells coming out of the kitchen, which included cookies, banana cream and pecan pies, angel food birthday cakes, pot roast, fried bullheads, and best of all, popcorn made in bacon grease. Homemade lunches in the field were a big treat during summer as was ice skating at the farm pit in winter. The kids’ friends were always welcomed to hang out at the house for ping pong, pool, or cards. After the kids grew up, Bud and Clay “hoisted the anchor” and settled in Douglas, Wyoming where their daughter Bonnie Sue and son-in-law Gale Lane resided. Clay could always be counted on for a fantastic batch of peanut clusters and the occasional tequila shot, and well into her 80s she challenged family and friends to a mean game of ping pong. She cherished her time with Bud, who was the love of her life. The two of them were often seen holding hands at church or headed up to the cabin on the mountain. Her priorities in life were God, Dad, and family, and she strived to be the best wife and mother she could be. She always exhibited unconditional love for her family who were her pride and joy. While in Douglas, Clay was a member of the Saint James choir and Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol. She will be missed dearly but it gives us much comfort that she is now at peace in the presence of God. We will always love her! The family offers a very special thank you to Thelma Earle, who was more than a personal companion to Mom after Dad passed away. The two of them smelled many roses together and enjoyed each other’s company. The family also thanks Interim Healthcare, Big Country Physical Therapy, and Dr. Engle and staff for the wonderful care she received. Clay is survived by her children, Bonnie, James and Patrick; brothers, Arnold and Milo; 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Clay was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bud, on February 3, 2012; son, Brad Jonas, on August 19, 1990; and siblings Evelyn Streff Bindner, Hazel Streff Schumacher, and Aloysius “Al” Streff Jr.
