A lifetime Wenatchee resident, Joy was born in Wenatchee October 1, 1924, to Henry and Olive Slack Otto. Joy married Everett Henderson in Wenatchee on October 26, 1943. They celebrated their 64th anniversary in 2007. She worked at Sears in the ad department, while Everett served in the U.S. Army. When he returned, they began their family. Read More	Evelyn Joy Otto Henderson died December 20, 2007, at Central Washington Hospital. A lifetime Wenatchee resident, Joy was born in Wenatchee October 1, 1924, to Henry and Olive Slack Otto. Joy married Everett Henderson in Wenatchee on October 26, 1943. They celebrated their 64th anniversary in 2007. She worked at Sears in the ad department, while Everett served in the U.S. Army. When he returned, they began their family. One family activity in the 1950's was performing in the Wenatchee Youth Circus. Joy played the calliope, made costumes and sold concessions. She taught piano at her Yakima Street home for 55 years. Her students ranged from beginners to advanced students, to the many piano teachers she mentored. In the 1960's, she introduced the Robert Pace method to this area, and became a national clinician and consultant. Students were taught in groups and pairs across a range of music styles including popular, jazz and classical. She was also innovative in training and supervising student teachers. Hundreds of children, teens and adults learned music theory and piano from her. She was a Hall of Fame member of the Washington State Music Teacher's Association. As the accompanist of the Apollo Club Men's Chorus for over 40 years, Joy traveled throughout the Northwest and British Columbia. She promoted and sold tickets for the Community Concert Association. She began a youth chorus at her church in the 1960's, taking them to many youth rallies. She often counseled and cooked and conducted choruses in church youth camps. She taught children's Sunday School for most of her adult life, even well into her senior years. She was a longtime member of King's Orchard Church of Christ and in recent years, of Foothills Foursquare Church. Joy will be remembered for her love of life and her enthusiasm for trying new things. She passed on this pursuit of growth and excellence to all her students. She loved shopping and entertaining and until her last years, was full of energy for trips to see children and grandchildren and for family gatherings of all kinds. She loved to pack out the cabin at Lake Wenatchee with family and friends. She delighted in travel to many major U.S. cities and toured Europe and Israel. She was preceded in death by her parents; and by a son, Chris Henderson. she is survived by her husband, Everett D. Henderson; daughter, Nancy (Mike) Crowe of Wenatchee; son, Harlan (Jean) Henderson of Cheney; and daughter, Nyla (Rand) Clare of Clarkston. Also surviving her are two brothers, Leonard (Eleanor) Otto of Spokane and Theodore (CJ) Otto of Garden Grove, CA; and a sister, Janet (Dale) Adams of Wenatchee. In addition, Joy leaves 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
