Evelyn was born June 10, 1927 in Howard County, Nebraska to Sherman and Dorothea (Miller) Winfrey. Evelyn was raised in St. Paul, Nebraska and attended St. Paul (NE.) Schools where she graduated in 1944. She worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Company. Evelyn was united in marriage to Dean Mattley on July 11, 1947 in Palmer, Nebraska. They lived most of their lives in St. Paul, Nebraska. The couple had one of the first radio and tv shops in St. Paul. In their later years they harvested honey in Howard and Garfield Counties, Nebraska in an apiary at their home. The couple spent many hours on Sherman and Calamus, Nebraska Lakes fishing. Evelyn enjoyed reading books and magazines, going to the library weekly. Cats were her hobby. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in St. Paul. Evelyn is preceded in death by: parents; husband, Ira Dean "Dean" Mattley on December 11, 2013; brothers-in-law, Duane and Darrel Mattley; nephew, David Mattley; niece, Cheryl Bleach and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ira & Flossie Mattley. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church, St. Paul, Nebraska. The Reverend Kati Salmons was officiator. Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery, St. Paul, Nebraska.
