Description	:	Evelyn Lenora Holmes, the daughter of Harman and Rennie (Lacey) Harmes, was born on January 3, 1915, in Sidney, Nebraska. She was the youngest of three children born to her parents. Read More	Evelyn Lenora Holmes, the daughter of Harman and Rennie (Lacey) Harmes, was born on January 3, 1915, in Sidney, Nebraska. She was the youngest of three children born to her parents. She passed away on November 1, 2010, at Parkview Haven Nursing Home in Deshler, Nebraska, at the age of 95 years, 9 months, and 28 days. Her family lived on various farms in the Byron and Chester area. She attended the Crackerbox School in rural Byron, Nebraska, through the 8th grade. Evelyn was united in marriage to Harry Holmes at the Christian Church in Chester on January 3, 1935. This union was blessed with five children: Shirley, Don, Cynthia, Julia and Elmer. The family farmed in the Byron area and then moved to rural Davenport in 1954. Evelyn was a homemaker and later cooked at the school in Davenport. Upon retirement she moved to Hebron. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Byron, Chester, Davenport and Hebron, the United Methodist Women and was active in all church related activities. She was also a member of card club. She loved working with her hands, embroidering, hand quilting quilts, sewing clothing, gardening, yard work, and also collected chicken memorabilia. She spent many hours canning vegetables from her garden and meat from their farm. She raised and dressed chickens, ducks and geese and also enjoyed raising guineas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; sister, Arlene Derowitsch; daughter, Shirley Joan Hobelmann; two brothers-in-law, Lloyd Derowitsch and Dan Friesen; three sons-in-law, Frank Kestner, Al Bryant and Kenneth Hobelmann. She is survived by her children: Don (Kathy) Holmes of Davenport; Cynthia (Duane) Meade of Normal, IL; Julia Bryant of Milwaukee, WI; and Elmer (Diane) Holmes of Byron; 9 grandchildren: Terry Hobelmann, Burl (Sheila) Holmes, Sherilyn (Greg) Hansen, Layne (Karrie) Holmes, Laura Kestner, Lenora Holmes, James, Meade, Wendy Cerny, Scott (Peggy) Meade, two step-grandchildren, Carl Bryant and Julia Stoner; 11 great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren; one sister, Norma Friesen of Hastings; many other relatives and friends.
