Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Jackson, Neb., with the Rev. Paul Albenesius and Rev. Daniel Wittrock officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery rural Jackson. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. Evelyn was born March 22, 1933, in Sioux City, the daughter of Collier and Mildred (Gallup) Chase. She graduated from high school in 1951. Evelyn met Harold Gill while she was working at a roller skating rink in South Sioux City. They skated into a relationship that would last for the next 58 years. They wed on April 14, 1952, at Cathedral of Epiphany in Sioux City. Harold was recalled into the U.S. Navy and deployed to Korea while Evelyn secured the home front with the first child, James. Over the next 18 years, 10 more children were born to Evelyn and Harold and their home was filled with laughter, love, hard work and dedication. They truly lived their wedding vows. Somehow between diapers, chauffeur services, tutoring, laundry, baking and preparing meals and cleaning, Evelyn found the time to develop her artistic talents. Evelyn was a talented seamstress, she created beautiful ceramic pieces and crocheted many intricate designs. She also was an avid gardener and taught herself how to put up preserves. Evelyn had room for any child in need and took in other's children when their parents no longer had the ability to care for them. Evelyn is survived by her husband, Harold; three sons, James (Carol) Gill, Jerry (Kerry) Gill, Larry (Jeanne) Gill; six daughters, Monica (Doug) Bush, Cheryl (Jim) Burkett, Cathy (friend Paul) Profera, Vicki (Rocky) DeWitt, Paula (Barry) Bliven, Karla (Greg) Polley; two sisters; one brother; and many nieces and nephews. She was the proud grandmother of 35 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Veronica Gill and Cindy Byrne; two granddaughters; one grandson; three brothers; and two sisters. Pallbearers will be Keith Bush, Adam Byrne, Joey Profera, Chase and Shaun Gill and Aaron Bliven.
