Taft Anonymous Star Beacon The Star Beacon Mon Jun 10, 2013, 06:58 PM EDT CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — Evelyn L. Taft, age 99, of Saybrook Township, Ohio, died Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Saybrook Landing. She was born June 25, 1913, in Jefferson, Ohio, the daughter of John B. and Lillian (Brockett) Mead and has been a lifetime area resident. She married William Howard Taft on Feb. 27, 1936, in Dorset, Ohio. She bowled at St. Angelo's Lanes on a senior league till she was 90. At age 94, she had her first motorcycle ride with her grandson Bill. She had a smile on her face when she left and a bigger smile when they returned. Surviving her are two daughters, June (Emerson) Long of Ashtabula and Darlene (Terry) Williams of Ashtabula; four grandchildren, William (Debbie) Emerson, Tim (Jodi) Williams, Craig Williams and Michelle (Chris) Massaro; five great-grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Howard Taft in 1984; a son, William A. Emerson; a daughter, Joyce (Emerson) Johnson; a granddaughter, Deborah Brenneman; a step-granddaughter, Corrine Kelly; two brothers, Kenneth Mead and Gale Mead; and two sisters, Ida Moses and Leona Lichtenberg. Funeral Service will be 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12th, at the Ashtabula Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, INC., 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with Jon VanderWier, Chaplain for Tridia Hospice, officiating. Burial will be in Dorset Cemetery. Calling Hour will be on Wednesday from 12 p.m. until the time of Service. Evelyn's family wants to thank everyone at Saybrook Landing for the care they gave her the three years she was there, especially all the nurses and aids who have worked on Beacon Hall. We thank all who have opened their hearts and gave their love to us at this time. Instead of flowers, the family asks that donations, go to the activity fund at Saybrook Landing, 2300 Center Road North, Ashtabula, Ohio 44004, so all patients will be able to have fun and enjoy the activates and outings that are planned by the wonderful activities department. The laughter you hear at these is heart warming. Donations can also be given to Tridia Hospice, 1933 Route 45, Austinburg, Ohio 44010, who do wonderful caring work to family and patients.
