She died October 14, 2001, in the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City. Ferguson was born May 25, 1909, in Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, the daughter of David Alexander and Ada (Britney) Ferguson. She attended school at the Dibble School in Pequot Lakes. Her mother died when Evelyn was 6, and she was then taken care of by her Grandma Dibble and two aunts. At the age of 12, she went to live with the Harry Parks and worked at Gull Lake Resort for room and board. In 1924, she moved to Valley City where she did housework. She moved here because her sister Olive lived in Valley City. She married Emil R. Hass on January 28, 1928, and they lived and farmed in Ashtabula Township until they retired and moved into Valley City in 1966. Emil died April 10, 1987. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Lois Circle. She was a charter member of the Ashtabula Homemakers and was president for a year. She enjoyed going to Minnesota to visit. She loved company, and also liked cats. Evelyn wanted her family to know how much she loved them and helped her to enjoy those years. Survivors are her son, Emil (Donna) Hass, Jr., Valley City; daughters, Eleanor (Donald) Senrick, Apple Valley, Minnesota; Arlene (Allan) froemke, Lisbon, and JoAnn Korf, Valley City; 21 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Ferguson, Valley City; two sisters-in-law, Freda Whetzel, Valley City and Tillie Hass, Blue Rapids, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parent; husband; and infant daughter Betty Jean; four grandsons; a brother Martin; sisters, Olive and Ida and an infant sister.
