The explosion set fire to the little girl's dress and she ran into the yard. A. Envold, who had just unharnessed a horse in the barn, came to her assistance but as he is crippled, he was unable to overtake the girl until the clothing was completely burned from her body. The father, who was working in the field was notified and he summonded Dr. N.A. Biorn from Jackson and Dr. Coleman from Estherville, but they were unable to do anything for the victim except to relieve her terrible suffering with opiates. Mrs. Benson had gone to Rochester the same morning to consult the Mayo surgeons regarding her health. She had just arrived at the clinic when a long distance telephone message informed her of the sad affair. She hired a car at once and hurried homeword but did not arrive until several hours after her daughter had passed away. The accident occurred about seven o'clock. Evelyn and her little brother were alone in the house and it is presumed that she intended to get the fire started and have supper ready for her father when he came in from his work.
