Description	:	Everett L. Scoggin passed away peacefully Friday, March 20, 2015, at his home near Pomeroy. Everett was born Nov. 25, 1924, on Scoggin Ridge south of Pomeroy. He grew up helping his dad and brothers run the family farm during the Depression. He was an avid hunter, trapper and fisherman, spending much of his time in the Blue Mountains. He fought in the battles of Baguio, Sante... Read More	Everett L. Scoggin passed away peacefully Friday, March 20, 2015, at his home near Pomeroy. Everett was born Nov. 25, 1924, on Scoggin Ridge south of Pomeroy. He grew up helping his dad and brothers run the family farm during the Depression. He was an avid hunter, trapper and fisherman, spending much of his time in the Blue Mountains. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1944 and served with the 129th Infantry and the 37th Infantry, Company I on the Philippines Island of Luzon during the Second World War. He fought in the battles of Baguio, Sante Fe and down the Cagayan River until the end of the war. He received a Bronze Star for voluntarily leading two wounded soldiers to safety under fire in an intense battle. When he returned home, he married Pearl Arrasmith, whom he met before his military service at Mountain View. They had two sons, Vernon and Frank. That marriage ended in 1953. He married Janet Kimble in 1955 and had a son, Max, and daughter, Elaine. They also raised a granddaughter, Melissa Ross. He continued farming on the Scoggin home place and expanded the operation by leasing other ranches and custom farming for some of the neighbors. In 1965, he took a job with the Washington State Game Department in Ellensburg, Wash., and operated a bird farm and served as a game warden. In 1968, the family returned to the farm on Scoggin Ridge, where he resumed farming and began a career with the U.S. Forest Service. There, he was employed as a range technician and managed the grazing land on the Pomeroy District. He enjoyed the job greatly, being that he traveled throughout the Blue Mountains, much of the time on horseback, working with other ranchers and some great people at the Forest Service. He retired from this position in 1986. In retirement, he continued farming with his son, Max, and he and Janet spent many years traveling and camping in some of his favorite places in Montana and Idaho. He also spent much of his time going up to the ranch and cabin near the forest boundary each day with his dogs. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet; brothers Jim and Bert; sisters Norma Koller and Wanda Ross; and great-grandson Ben Scoggin. Survivors names omitted per findagrave policy.
