Description	:	Everett Wayne Flaugher was born on Apr. 17, 1894 to William Flaugher and Jane Taylor. Wayne came with his family from Iowa by covered wagon to a farm 4 miles west of Heaton, ND when he was about 2 years old. He entered the Army at the age of 23 on Sept 18, 1917 and served with Battery B of the 338th Field Artillery, 88th Division at Camp Dodge, Iowa. He then became part of the Medical Dept., 30th Division, in Camp Bowie, Texas. Read More	Everett Wayne Flaugher was born on Apr. 17, 1894 to William Flaugher and Jane Taylor. Wayne came with his family from Iowa by covered wagon to a farm 4 miles west of Heaton, ND when he was about 2 years old. He entered the Army at the age of 23 on Sept 18, 1917 and served with Battery B of the 338th Field Artillery, 88th Division at Camp Dodge, Iowa. He then became part of the Medical Dept., 30th Division, in Camp Bowie, Texas. The next year he contracted scarlet fever complicated by mastoiditis and cerebral meningitis which resulted in the loss of his sight. Wayne was then sent to the Evergreen Training School, a vocational center for blinded World War I veterans at Baltimore, Maryland. He was discharged from the army there on May 21, 1919. While living in Baltimore, he boarded with "Mother Allaire" who was an older cousin of Babe Ruth. Wayne met his future wife, Hazel, at a doctor's office in McCluskey, North Dakota. They corresponded over the next year while she taught school at Bucyrus, ND in the Badlands (Her 2nd year of teaching). They saw each other again afterwards and married after a courtship entirely by mail on May 19, 1922. He was 28 and she was 22. They became the parents of four daughters; Wanda, Donna, Shirley and Audrey. They lived in Heaton until Oct of 1944 when they moved to Bremerton, WA where Hazel's sister lived. They resided at 2410 E. 11th Street. Wayne and Hazel attended church at Sylvan Way Baptist Church in Bremerton. Wayne was an American Legion member for 60 years, serving as Post Commander of the Heaton Post No. 90 and Heaton-Sykeston Post No. 69 from 1932 to 1944 and as District Deputy, 4th District for three years. He was a member of the Manette Peninsula American Legion Post No. 68 in Bremerton at the time of his death. He was also a life member of the Fargo Chapter, Disabled American Veterans and had served as Senior Vice-Commander, Blind Veterans National Chapter DAV, Executive Committeeman, Dist. 13, Washington, Oregon and Idaho. He was also a member of the Barracks No. 1193, Veterans of World War I in Bremerton, a charter member of the Kitsap County, Washington Historical Society and the Wells County Historical Society. Wayne died at the age of 84 years on Aug. 29, 1978 at the Resthaven Nursing Home in Bremerton, Washington.
