Walnut, Mount Pleasant, died at 815 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 1997, at Mapleleaf Healthcare Center. Born Sept. 30, 1905, in Jackson Township of Henry County, he was the son of George G. and Mary Abraham Wright . On Oct. 17, 1929, he married Edna E. Walters in Mount Pleasant. He worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown. He farmed most of his life southeast of Mount Pleasant, operated his own trucking service in Mount Pleasant and southeast Iowa for many years, and drove for North American Van Lines at one time. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant, the Moose Lodge, and was very active with housing during Old Threshers reunions. Survivors include his wife; five sons,{private}; two daughters, {private}; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. Visitation will begin at noon today at Weir Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. followed by the family receiving friends until 830 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Wright will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Spiegel officiating. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Mount Pleasant. Memorials have been established for the Old Threshers Foundation and the Mapleleaf Care Center Activity Fund.
