Description	:	At his home in Valley township last Saturday, April 22, 1922, Evert De Vries passed away, at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 8 days. Evert De Vries was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, Nov. 14th, 1842. He came to the U.S. in 1872, settling in Marion county, Iowa, where on Feb. 27th, 1875, he was married to Miss Jennie Muilenburg. Evert De Vries was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, Nov. 14th, 1842. He came to the U.S. in 1872, settling in Marion county, Iowa, where on Feb. 27th, 1875, he was married to Miss Jennie Muilenburg. To this union 12 children were born, all of whom, with the widow, survive him. The children are: Mrs. Effie Scholten, Mrs. Mary Ligtenberg, Gerrit E. De Vries, Mrs. Minnie Menning, Guy E. De Vries, Mrs. Dena Ruesink, Herman E. De Vries, Arie De Vries, John E. De Vries, Mrs. Jennie Bobeldyk, all of Douglas county, Mrs. Agnes Van der Werff and Mrs. Kate Van der Werff of Ree Heights. Besides these there are 47 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Mr. De Vries was one of a large family of brothers and sisters. He was one of a set of triplets, one which died at birth and the other about 10 years ago. He came to Douglas county in 1886, locating on a farm in Valley township, where he has resided continuously. He was a man highly respected by the entire community. At times he had been one of the township officers. He was a member of the Reformed church and had been an elder of the Grand View church for the past 30 years. The funeral was held Tuesday, at the house at 1 o'clock and at the Grand View church at 2 o'clock. The remains being layed to rest in the Grand View cemetery.
