Brewer, 87, of Camp Crook, SD will be 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2009, in the Chapel of Stevenson Funeral Home in Ekalaka, MT with Eldon Chapman officiating. Interment will follow in the Brewer Family lot in the Beaver Lodge Cemetery at Ekalaka with Military Rites being provided by the Ekalaka American Legion Post #60 and Ekalaka VFW Post #7885. Evert passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at his ranch home on Tie Creek west of Camp Crook, SD. Evert E. Brewer was born August 15, 1922, a son of Thomas Albert and Mae (Strain) Brewer in Ekalaka, MT. Evert grew up on the family ranch on Tie Creek west of Camp Crook, SD. He attended the Tie Creek School through 7th grade and attended 8th grade at Ekalaka Grade School and Carter County High School there as well. Following high school, Evert worked in the Camp Crook area where he worked on ranches in South Dakota and Montana. Evert met Mary Catherine Cridland, and the two were married on September 15, 1942 in Baker, MT. To this union Jimmie and Thomas were born. Evert entered the United States Army in November 1942, and served as a Medic with the 27th General Hospital until his Honorable Discharge in January 1946. Following his discharge, Evert returned to the Camp Crook area where he ranched and started trucking. In 1952, Evert and his family moved to Miles City, MT where Evert became an over the road long distance trucker. For the next 22 years, truck driving became Evert's way of life. During the early 1950's, Evert took an interest in televisions. He completed a correspondence course in television repair, and as a hobby he repaired them in his spare time. When Evert was not out on the road in his 18-wheeler, he and Mary square danced. Evert and Mary belonged to the City Slickers Square Dance Club in Miles City, where he served as President of the group at one time. Later on Evert and Mary belonged to the Cow Town Square Dance Club in Miles City. In 1978, Evert and Mary returned to the Brewer Ranch on Tie Creek, where they have made their home since. Evert was a member of the Miles City Fraternal Order of Eagles. Following their return to the ranch, they continued their love and passion for square dancing. Evert loved the open road in his trucks, owning a great horse, but most of all he loved his family. Evert is survived by his loving best friend and wife, Mary Brewer of Camp Crook, SD; two sons, Jimmie (Emily) Brewer of Miles City, MT and Thomas E. Brewer of Camp Crook, SD; two grandchildren, Scott (Deb) Brewer and Kelley (Robert) Greear; two great-grandchildren, Miles Darin Brewer and Adysen Lee Ann Greear and his brother, Bud Brewer of Forsyth, MT. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mae Brewer.
