Description	:	Ezekial Thomas Thatcher was born 6 Oct 1825 in Martinsburg, Berkeley, Virgina (now in West Virginia). He was one of 10 children born to Mark A Carr Thatcher and Hanna Thomas. Ezekial came to California by wagon train in the Gold Rush. He took up a land claim on Bear Creek in Shasta County about 1852. Ezekial came to California by wagon train in the Gold Rush. He took up a land claim on Bear Creek in Shasta County about 1852. He was involved in logging and the lumber business for the rest of his life. He married Catherine Ann Harrington 12 Feb 1859 in Shasta County, Calif. They made their home on his land adjacent to the Harringtons and including what is now part of Parkville Cemetery. In the 1870's they purchased the Pine Grove Ranch near Shingletown, Shasta Co. Calif. and continued operating the existing Pine Grove Hotel and adjacent corrals. Ezekial and Catherine had 11 children, many of which are buried in the Thatcher plot in Parkville Cemetery.Ezekial Thomas Thatcher died 9 May 1908 in Shasta County, Calif. He is buried next to his wife, Catherine, and surrounded by many other family members. Ezekial Thatcher arrived at Shasta in either 1850 or 1852 where he goldmined or hewed and whipsawed lumber. He settled on Bear Creek in 1853 approximately two miles up-creek from Parkville and engaged in farming, stockraising, teaming and lumbering. His house still exists, making it one of the oldest in Shasta County. He was continually involved in the lumber business throughout his life although his sons became even more involved. He hauled the first load of lumber out of the mountains with three yoke of oxen from Shingletown to the Baker Place on Bear Creek, he hauled produce and stock to Shasta for sale, and he hauled the lava rock that was used to build Fort Reading. He married Catherine Harrington in 1858 at the Baker Place. In 1870 he purchased the Pine Grove Ranch located 2½ miles west of Shingletown and continued operating the existing Pine Grove Hotel and adjacent corrals. He provided blacksmith services and oversaw the cutting of millions of feet of lumber at the ranch sawmill. He was a member of the Millville Volunteers.
