Description	:	The body of E. W. Smith, formerly of Lebanon, who died in Oklahoma City, Tuesday, will arrive here tonight for burial in the Sweet Home cemetery beside his wife and daughter. Mr Smith was a pioneer in the Lebanon community. He homesteaded in an early day the farm now owned by L. F. Edgerton. He was a member of the G. A. R. and was prominent in Masonic lodge circles. Smith was born in Belmont County, Ohio, June 12, 1843 and died at his Oklahoma City home April 3, 1924 at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 26 days. The body was brought back to Lebanon and tenderly laid to rest in the Sweet Home cemetery by the side of his companion and daughter, both of whom had perceded him to the other world by a score of years. The body was accompanied by three daughters, Mrs. Sara Lewis, Miss Caddie and Miss Lena all of whom live in Oklahoma City and whose kindly ministries were cheerfully bestowed upon their father during his entire illness. A son, Roscoe Smith, living in Nebraska was the only one of the boys near enough to be present at the funeral. On Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock business houses closed their doors and a large concourse of former friends and old-time neighbors gathered at the Methodist church where appropraite services were conducted. L. B. Tremain officiated assisted by the Rev. V. V. Whitsitt, pastor of the church. A quartet consisting of Prof. Cook, Mr. and Mrs. Ned Bell and Mrs. George Jackson with Prof. Reitz presiding at the piano furnished inspiring and comforting music. Honorary pallbearers were chosen from the ranks of the civil war veterans. The Masonic Order had general charge of the body concluding with their impressive services at the cemetery. Mr. Smith was a pioneer of Smith county, settling on a farm three and one half miles north of Lebanon in 1873. He was a sturdy, Progressive citizen. Just the right type to give large service and leadership in a new country. He was identified with the problems of the community. He had the distinction of representing his district in the State Legislature. He also had the honor of being appointed postmaster at Lebanon, which office he held for a number of years. Minor offices of public trust were conferred upon him. Mr Smith believed in God and also believed in his fellowman. He was just and congenial and naturally made friends with all.
