Mrs. Shields died May 10, 1982 at the home of her daughter, Betty and husband, Clark J. Crawford, rural route, Clarinda, Ia. Highland Chapter No. 523 Order of Eastern Star at Siam conducted services with interment at Shearer Cemetery. Fannie Mildred Shields, daughter of Nathan Hugh and Maggie Dell Robbins Reid, was born March 2, 1895, one and one half miles west of Siam in Taylor County, Iowa. Her mother died when she was four years old. She made her home with her grandmother Robbins, and learned many teachings from her grandmother that she practiced all her life. She received her education in the country schools of Page and Taylor County and later attended College in Maryville, Missouri and Western Normal College in Shenandoah, Iowa. She taught rural school for several years in Page and Taylor County. She was married to Frank Walter Shields, a near-by neighbor, on December 25, 1917 at Bedford, Ia., by Rev. Beryl Gilpin, of Blockton, Iowa, pastor of the Christian Church at Siam. Four children were born to the couple: Reid, Ruth, Betty and Billie. She was a member of the Christian Church at Siam; Association of Mothers of Iowa; Hospital Auxiliary at Clarinda; State Historical Society of Iowa; and Highland Chapter No. 523 Order of Eastern Star at Siam. She lived in the Siam area all of her life with the exception of three years in Colorado and the first two years of her married life in Missouri. Left to cherish her memory are: her four children: Reid and his wife, Waive, of Siam, Ruth Shreck and her husband, C. J. of West Des Moines, Iowa, Betty Crawford and her husband, Clark, of Clarinda, Billie Rollstin and her husband, Robert, of Cape Coral, Florida; ten grandchildren: Harriet Shields Clark, Frank Shields, Robert Shreck, Rebecca Shreck Glickman, John Crawford, Gloria Crawford Kline, George Crawford, Bobby Rollstin Gardner, Gerry Ann Rollstin and William Rollstin; 16 great grandchildren and the Ernest Gray family who were like her own. Her love and concern for her family, friends and community and her faith in God was the plan of her life. She was ever interested in meeting new people and making new friends. Her family and friends will remember her as a kind and considerate loved one and she will be sadly missed by all those who knew her.
