Description	:	Funeral services for Mrs. Fannie Novacek, who passed away Oct. 26, were held, Saturday, Oct. 29 at the ZCBJ Hall here at 2 p.m. Rev J. L. Garland of Creighton was in charge, speaking in English, along with Marie Tikalsky, speaking in Czech. Burial was in the Bohemian National cemetery west of Verdigre. Pallbearers were grandsons. Fannie Skalicky, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Skalicky, was born in Selcany, Czechslovakia Dec. 24, 1868. She was 80 years, 9 months and 26 days old at the time of her death. She came to the United States in 1886 with her parents at the age of 18. For one year, she kept house for her brother, Joseph Skalicky Sr., on the farm where her son, Albert, is now living. For four more years, she worked in different places in Verdigre, Niobrara and Running Water, S.D. On April 27, 1891, she married Frank Novacek in Verdigre. They filed on a homestead nine miles west of Verdigre. After 30 years of farming with its pioneer hardships, drought and good years, the Novaceks retired from farming and moved to Verdigre. In her old age, when she became ill and was not able to care for herself, her children took her in. Her last days were spent in the home of her son, Albert. Here she passed away, Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 5:45 p.m. Surviving and left to mourn her passing are four children; Albert of Walnut; Anna (Frank) Vavak and William of Verdigre and Mary (Felix) Sedivy of Wis.; also 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Frank Sokol and a host of other relatives, friends and neighbors.
