Description	:	Ferdinand D. Billings was born in Blandford, Hampden County, Massachusetts on 8 Mar 1850. His parents were David P. Billings and Frances Louisa Pendleton. He had five siblings: George Billings, Sarah Jane Billings, Almira Billings, Norton Herbert Billings, and Jabez Pendleton Billings. In 1854, the family left Massachusetts and settled in Minnesota. Billings was born in Blandford, Hampden County, Massachusetts on 8 Mar 1850. His parents were David P. Billings and Frances Louisa Pendleton. He had five siblings: George Billings, Sarah Jane Billings, Almira Billings, Norton Herbert Billings, and Jabez Pendleton Billings. In 1854, the family left Massachusetts and settled in Minnesota. There, on 15 Oct 1855, his father David P. Billings of Houston County, MN, received a land patent for 40 acres. Ferdinand was listed with his parents in the 1860 census at the Village of Caledonia, Houston County, Minnesota. He was shown as Ferdinand Billings, an 11 year old son attending school in #HH15 headed by D. P. Billings, a 43 year old farmer with real estate valued at $1000 and personal property of $400. Listed with him were the following Billings: Louisa, age 42; George, age 20; Sarah J., age 17; Almira, age 16; Norton, age 8 and Jabez, age 4. On 25 May, 1872 at Story County, Iowa, Ferdinand married Mary Johnson. They were the parents of an infant daughter, Frances L. Billings who died 28 Apr 1874 at Lake Marshall, Minnesota. Ferdinand and Mary divorced on 5 Dec 1876, Story County, Iowa. Sometime before 1880, Ferdinand secured a homestead in the Dakota Territory. There he married a widow with four children — Nellie Sinclair Wilkins, widow of Nathan Harrison Wilkins. In the census of 1880, Deuel, Herrick County, South Dakota, Ferdinand, age 32, was listed with Nellie Billings, his wife. His father, D. P. Billings and brothers, Norton and Jabez Billings were listed as neighbors. Not long after that, Ferdinand and his brothers and father became disappointed with life in the new territory and started overland for Boulder County, Colorado. By 1890, Ferdinand was residing near Lyons, Colorado. At that time, his brother George Billings and wife were operating a ranch along the North St. Vrain called the Billings Resort. Ferdinand Billings was a witness in the John Kearney murder case in Dec 1892. Ferdinand stated that he was present at Charles Bradford's saloon at Lyons when the fatal poker game took place. Billings testified that both men were "paralyzed drunk." Ferdinand passed away on 7 Aug 1898 at Lyons, Colorado. He was survived by his widow, Nellie and the following brothers and sisters: Louisa Billings Swartout, wife of Peter Swartout; Norton Herbert Billings and Jabez Pendleton Billings. BILLINGS — At Lyons, Colo., Sunday, August 7, 1898, from the result of an injury to the chest received several years ago, Ferdinand D. Billings, aged 51 years. Mr. Billings has been around this part of the country for the past twenty-five years, and has lately run the Rock Creek house at Allen's Park. He was the brother of J. B. [P.] Billings who owned the resort on the St. Vrain which goes by his name.
