Description	:	Son of Henry and Gertrude (Hoch) Ripp. Emigrated with his parents from Germany to Wisconsin in 1855. Married Cathrina Reisner on May 27, 1865 at Springfield, Wisconsin. They settled in Platte County, Nebr. in 1879. A carpenter by trade, Ferdinand built St. Patrick's Catholic Church at Platte Center in 1873 and St. Anthony's near Tarnov in 1878. Moved to Holt County in 1885 where he farmed. Clarke, 1915), p. 26. Extracted from the biography of Fred Higler Ripp, son of Ferdinand and Cathrina Ripp The father [Ferdinand] was born on the Rhine and the mother [Cathrina] in Luxemburg. They came to America with their respective parents, settling near Reisling, Wisconsin. The father, who was a carpenter by trade, removed to Platte county, Nebraska, in 1868, establishing his home in Joliet township, where he purchased land and engaged in farming until 1885. He then removed to Holt county, where he preempted land, taking up his abode thereon, he and his wife making that place their home until 1909, when they retired from active farm life and removed to Cedar Rapids, Nebraska, where they are now living. Mr. and Mrs. Ripp became the parents of twelve children: Anna, who is a resident of Platte Center; Henry, living in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska; Kate, who makes her home in Olympia, Washington; Mattie, who resides in Woodlawn, Oregon; Agnes, of Niobrara, Nebraska; William, living in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska; John, who is a resident of Spencer, this state; Lizzie, who makes her home in McMinnville, Oregon; Jacob, living in Rosewater, Nebraska; Gertrude, of Cedar Rapids, Nebraska; Fred Higler, of this review; and Theodore, who died at the age of fourteen months. ```````````` Cedar Rapids Outlook (Cedar Rapids, Nebr.), January 17, 1918, p. 5, col. 4 FERDINAND RIPP The subject of this sketch was born, May 23, 1841 near Coln, Germany, and died at St. Mary's hospital Columbus Sunday, Jan. 13th, 1918 after a two weeks illness. At the age of 14 he came to America and located in Wisconsin and in 1869 moved to Nebraska where he has since resided. He was married in 1865 and reared a family of eleven children. Those who survive the father are: Mrs. Hilder Griesen and Fred of Scotts Bluff, Mrs. Katherine Kramer of Olymphia, Wash., Mrs. Agnes Moffett of Colombe, S. D., Mrs. Elizabeth Secot Oregon, John of Spencer, Jake of Waterbury, William, Henry and Mrs. Fred Goering of this city. Mrs. Ripp passed away Nov. 11, last, just nine weeks before her husband. Mr. Ripp was a man of sturdy constitution and always prepared to take things as they came. He went to Columbus two weeks ago for treatment of some blader trouble which later proved fatal. The remains were shipped home and the funeral services held Tuesday morning at 9:30 from St. Anthony church of which he was a faithful member. Father Vermuelen conducted the services which were largely attended. Interment was made in the Catholic Cemetery. Those who were here from a distance to attend Mr. Ripps funeral were: Mrs. Griesen and Fred Ripp of Scotts Bluff, Neb., Mrs. Moffett of Colome, S. D., John of Spencer, Jake of Waterbury, Henry Ripp and wife and Jake Ripp of Kearney, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Juchter Mrs. John Schumacher, Mrs. Henry Kring, Mrs. Leffelhulz, August Hamling, Chas. Dudy, Philip Goering, Herman Goering and Henry Griesen, Jr. all of Platte Center.
