Ripp Died at Home in Cedar Rapids on Last Friday Was Born and Raised in This Community. Engaged in Mercantile Business Here. Henry M. Ripp, 64, of Cedar Rapids, and formerly a resident of Platte Center passed away at the family home on Friday of last week, April 15. While it was generally known here that he had been seriously ill for some time, it came as quite a shock to this community. The deceased was born in 1867 on a farm northwest of Platte Center, a son of Ferdinand and Katherine Ripp, who were natives of Germany and who settled on a farm in Joliet township after coming from Wisconsin. H. M. Ripp's first wife, nee Mary Webster, died on July 17, 1879 [sic], leaving a fourteen month old daughter, Margaret, who now is Mrs. Bernard Gunsolly, of Omaha. On February 7, 1899, he was united in marriage to Miss Theresa Liebig, to which union eight children were born - Madeline, now Mrs. Morrison; Rose now Mrs. Pflaum; Anna now Mrs. Loomis; Dr. Leo; Francis, Sylvester, and twins, Catherine and Collette. Besides his wife and children he leaves two brothers, William Ripp, of Julian, Neb., and Jacob Ripp, of Petersburg, Neb., and four sisters, Mrs. Hilger Greisen, of Scottsbluff, Neb., Mrs. Shelby Moffett, of Torrington, Wyo., Mrs. U. D. Secot, of McManville, Ore., and Mrs. Fred Goering, of Cedar Rapids. His parents, who spent their declining years in Cedar Rapids, preceded him in death, the mother on November 14, 1918, and the father on January 12, 1919. To the relatives who are left to mourn his loss the Radiogram wishes to join this community in extending our deepest sympathies. The deceased enjoyed a very wide acquaintance in this county and was held in the highest esteem by everyone; his honesty and integrity could never be questioned in the slightest degree. He was employed as clerk in the general store of the firm of Bruckner and Greisen from 1892 to 1902 in which year a dissolution took place and when he associated himself with Mr. Greisen in establishing the general firm of H. M. Ripp and Co., which he conducted and managed until 1906 when they sold out to C. E. Smith and Co. In 1911 he moved to Cedar Rapids where he engaged again in the mercantile business with his brother, Wm. Ripp, and brother-in-law, Fred Goering. In the spring of 1918 he sold his interest in this firm to engage in the real estate business; prior to his illness he was cashier of the Citizens State Bank of Cedar Rapids. The funeral was held Monday morning at the Catholic church in Cedar Rapids and interment was in the cemetery there. Those from Platte Center who attended the last rites were Mr. and Mrs. Max Bruckner, Mrs. Frank Bruckner, Mr. and Mrs. R. M. McGuane, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Liebig and two sons, Joseph Liebig, John Schumacher, John Liebig, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Larson, Mrs. Henry Zingg, Henry Juchter, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Greisen, jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Greisen. - Platte Center Radiogram
