Description	:	Ferman LeRoy Clarkson, 88, of Belle Fourche, died Monday, October 16, at his home. Roy was born to Ferman Mason and Maud (Moriarty) Clarkson on January 1, 1918, at his parents' Bull Creek ranch in South Cave Hills, Harding County. He attended grade school in rural Harding County, Bowman, Spearfish, Ingersoll School, and graduated from Belle Fourche High School in 1937. Roy was born to Ferman Mason and Maud (Moriarty) Clarkson on January 1, 1918, at his parents' Bull Creek ranch in South Cave Hills, Harding County. He attended grade school in rural Harding County, Bowman, Spearfish, Ingersoll School, and graduated from Belle Fourche High School in 1937. He attended Colorado State University and graduated from the University of Wyoming. In May of 1942 he enlisted in the Navy, attended midshipman's school and became a Navy Gunfire Officer. He landed with three invasions at North Africa, Sicily, and Normandy, in which he earned a Silver Star in Sicily and a Bronze Star in Normandy. Following the war he moved with his wife, Frances Tanner, to the family sheep ranch north of Belle Fourche. To this union four children were born: Carol Ann, Kay Dolores, Mary Frances, and Ferman Mason. In 1961, Roy married Norma Newman. He served thirty-six years as Chairman of the Board for the Bank of Belle Fourche, which later became part of Pioneer Bank and Trust. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Florence Davis, brothers Maurice and Herbert Clarkson. He is survived by his daughters Carol Eklund, Kay (Richard) Musil, both of Phoenix and Mary (Kevin) Buchholz, Belle Fourche; son Ferman (Barbara) Clarkson, of Tucson; 12 grandchildren, Derrick, Thad, Scott, and Hilary Buchholz; Erik Eklund; Aaron (Christine) Musil, Katherine (Derek) Mitzel, CJ and Ian Musil; Sarah, David, and Megan Clarkson; 7-great grandchildren, Milton, Saxon, and Anton Buchholz; Matt, Joe and Isaac Musil, and Ty Mitzel. Also surviving are his sister-in-law Dottie Clarkson and brother-in-law Arthur Davis. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Tri-State Museum Foundation. Visitation will be Thursday, October 19, and Friday, October 20, at Kline Funeral Chapel in Belle Fourche. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 21, at the United Congregational Church of Christ in Belle Fourche with Reverend Buck Malone Officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche with the Belle Fourche Honor Guard performing military honors. Belle Fourche Post & Bee
