Description	:	Havelock--Fern Morgan, age 100, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2005, at the Spencer Hospital in Spencer, Iowa. Services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 11 at the Hope United Methodist Church in Havelock with Rev. Thorne Wittstruck officiating. Fern Coral Johnson was born on December 4, 1904, near Laurens. She was the daughter of William and Eunice (Pierce) Johnson. Fern graduated from Laurens High School in 1923, and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She was the daughter of William and Eunice (Pierce) Johnson. Fern graduated from Laurens High School in 1923, and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. On September 6, 1923, Fern married Roscoe Smith. The couple farmed near Laurens, Milford, and Havelock. Roscoe died in 1952 due to an Automobile Accident. Fern continued to live on the family farm near Havelock. On September 12, 1959, she married Henry Zech. the couple spent many winters in Texas. Henry died in 1983. On March 26, 1989, Fern remarried again to Carl Morgan at Havelock. Carl died in 1990. In June of 2002, Fern entered St. Luke's Assisted Living Facility in Spencer and then moved into the Longhouse Residence in 2003. Fern was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church in Havelock and the Senior Citizens group. She loved music, playing cards, traveling and dancing in her spare time. Survivors include her children: Meryl (Colleen) Smith of Spencer, Duane (Lavohn) Smith of Albert City, Violet Harris of Marion and Norma Reardon of Burnsville, MN; daughter in law, Dorothy Smith of Havelock, Step daughter in law: Peggy Zech of Mitchell, South Dakota, step children Albert Bonham and Lawrence Zech, grandchildren: Don, Dennis, and Randy Smith, Darlys Blomberg, Sandra Stone, Joyce Bailey, Donna Drake, Connie Seaman, Cary Dixon, Ron, Steve, and Wayne Harris, Roxanne Braden and Terry Smith, and many, many, great-grandchildren. Fern was preceded in death by her parents, three husbands, her son, Alan Smith; brothers, Ben and Bob Johnson; step-son, Eugene Zech; and great-grandsons: Kyle and Kevin Blomberg. OBITUARY FOR DAUGHTER VIOLET MAY(SMITH) HARRIS: Violet M. Harris, 89, of Marion, Iowa, died Sunday, February 25, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Survivors include her children, Cary Dixon of Marion, Roxanne (Jeff) Braden of Marion, Ron Harris of Shellsburg, Steve (Angie) Harris of Iowa City and Wayne Harris of Marion; also surviving are 15 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and three brothers. Violet May Smith was born July 4, 1928 in rural Palo Alto County, Iowa, the daughter of Roscoe and Fern (Johnson) Smith. Violet worked as a department manager at Sears and then Walmart for many years. As a young adult, she enjoyed driving dirt stock cars and demolition derby's, and enjoyed the outdoors, especially flowers, hunting and fishing. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
