Petersen, daughter of Leslie and Mamie Studley Jeffres, was born November 16, 1920 on the family farm in Greeley County, Nebraska. She departed from this life on August 24, 1986 at Grand Island, Nebraska at the age of 65 years. Fern received her education in rural school in the Cushing-Wolbach area and was a graduate of the Cushing High School. She grew to womanhood on the family farm. As a young woman, Fern worked at a St. Paul cafe before her marriage. On June 28, 1941, Fern was united in marriage to Alvie Petersen at Columbus. The couple first made their home at Columbus. Later the couple returned to Cushing where Alvie worked in well drilling from 1947 to 1986. Fern was a postmistress of Cushing. She is survived by her husband, Alvie of St. Paul; a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Joyce) Berney of Wolbach; a brother, Melvin Jeffres of St. Paul; and two grandchildren, Donnie and Christy. She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Kirby Berney.
