She was baptized and later confirmed into the Christian faith. She passed away January 26, 2019, at the Hearthstone in York, Nebraska, at the age of 92 years, 1 month, and 29 days. Read More	Fern Lavern (Braun) Kness was born to John Carl Braun and Augusta Clara Louise (Drews) Braun on November 28, 1926, at Carleton, Nebraska. She was baptized and later confirmed into the Christian faith. She passed away January 26, 2019, at the Hearthstone in York, Nebraska, at the age of 92 years, 1 month, and 29 days. She was the oldest of four children in the family. Fern attended school in Martland, Hebron, and Geneva. She graduated from Geneva High School in 1945. She worked at the Carleton Post Office for seven years following graduation. Fern was married to Jackie G. Kness of Grafton, Nebraska on March 13, 1953, and to them four children were born. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2013. Fern was a devoted farmer’s wife, homemaker, and mother. She was not afraid to take on any task and helped out wherever she was needed. She lived her entire married life on the farm until moving to the Hearthstone in April of 2012. She will be remembered and missed by many. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her parents, John & Augusta Braun; parents-in-law, Walter & Elsie Kness; sisters and brothers-in-law, Eldene & Val Swanson and Valora & Ronny Tinkham; brother Stewart Braun; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Nellie Kness. She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Kness, Ryan & Heather (Simonds) Kness; daughters, Debra Kness and Sheree & James Fischer; grandchildren, Amanda Fischer and Cameron, Tanner, and Brandt Kness; and by nieces and nephews. A private family funeral service for Fern was held on January 31st, at the Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva. Pastor Scott Henry officiated the service. The Recorded selections "In the Garden," "How Great Thou Art," and "Amazing Grace" were played during the service. Pallbearers included Jeff Kness, Ryan Kness, Jim Fischer and Dennis Simonds. Interment was held in the Grafton Cemetery following the funeral service. The Nebraska Signal February 6, 2019 page 9A.
