Description	:	~ Mrs. Fern "Ferne" M. Hobson Bolton ~ Mrs. Ferne Bolton, 71, wife of the Rev. John W. Bolton of Independence, died Monday night, Sept. 21, 1964, at 11:30 in Mercy Hospital. Mrs. Bolton had undergone surgery in March 1960 and again in June of the year. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Chetopa Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Lake Creek cemetery under direction of the Miller Funeral Home of Chetopa. Mrs. Bolton was born March 19, 1893 at Veedersburg, Ind., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Fred Hobson. The family moved to Bartlett, Kan., in October 1897. On June 22, 1909 at Wauneta, Kan., she was married to the Rev. John Bolton. Survivors include the husband of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Betty Marie Deaver of Garden City; a son, James Vaughn Bolton of Manhattan; three sisters, Mrs. Vivian Cook of Joplin, Mrs. Hollis Howard of Coffeyville, and Mrs. Pearl Hellwig of Chetopa; two brothers, William F. Hobson, Jr. of Wichita, and Howard Hobson of Coffeyville; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A daughter, Esther LaVerne, died in infancy. The Rev. and Mrs. Bolton moved to Independence six years ago from Chetopa. He recently retired at pastor of the Grace Methodist church of that city. Mrs. Bolton was a member of the Royal Neighbors lodge for more than 40 years, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star at Perry, Kan. In the Methodist church she was a charter member of the Woman's Society of Christian Service, and served as its Director of Young People's Work for six years in the Kansas City and Topeka districts. She taught four years in the School of Missions for Girls which is held each year during June in Kansas City, Mo.
