Description	:	Fern Fischer, 95, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Brookstone Acres in Columbus. The funeral service will be Wednesday, September 2, 10:30 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Aaron Duell officiating. Interment will be in the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 9:30 – 10:30 A.M. at the church with a family prayer service at 10:15 A.M. Fern Olson Fischer was born January 4, 1920, to Swan and Anna (Pearson) Olson, in Wausa, Nebraska. She attended a rural school and the Wausa High School. After graduation, she attended Wayne State College at Wayne, Nebraska. Fern taught in Knox County rural schools, the Magnet, Creighton, and Niobrara Nebraska Public Schools. On June 1, 1949, Fern was united in marriage to Carl Fischer of Niobrara at the Covenant Church in Wausa. They made their home in Niobrara. Two children, Carlyce and Craig were born to this union. Carl and Fern moved to Winside, Nebraska, in August of 1972, where she was employed by the Winside Public School as a substitute teacher and assistant librarian. In August of 1981, they moved to Columbus. She was a member of the United Methodist Church where she served as librarian for ten years. She was also a member of the XYZ club, the V.F.W. # 3704 Auxiliary and a life member of the D.A.V. Auxiliary #20. Her greatest interest was enjoying her family and she was an avid Cubs baseball fan. Fern is survived by: Daughter: Carlyce Fischer of Aurora, CO Son: Craig Fischer of Columbus, NE Granddaughters: Catherine Garretson of Bellwood, NE Christin Fischer of Balko, OK Great Grandson: Dylan Garretson Brother: Leslie (Christina) Olson of Salem, OR Numerous nieces and nephews Fern was preceded in death by: Parents: Swan & Anna Olson Husband of 65 years: Carl Fischer Brothers: Emil, Clarence (Lulu), Oscar (Lil), Harry (Clara), Ernest (Blanche) Olson Sisters: Gladys (Herman) Rosen, Amy (Oliver) Larson, Edna (Oliver) Nelson, and Jean (George) Morris Nephew: Dr. Don Larson Nieces: Shelley Bloomquist and Arlis Lindstrom Brother-in-law: Don Beeks Sisters-in-law: Violet Olson and Ruth Olson
