Description	:	MARTIN FERN S.—Fern, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Rutherford Martin, died at the family home in Geneva, Neb., at 10 a.m. Friday, January 26, 1917, aged 16 years, 1 month and 8 days. She had been suffering from diphtheria, but the treatment had been effective and she was apparently well on the way to recovery when she suffered a relapse, and her death followed in a few hours, the sufferer’s heart having become affected. Read More	MARTIN FERN S.—Fern, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Rutherford Martin, died at the family home in Geneva, Neb., at 10 a.m. Friday, January 26, 1917, aged 16 years, 1 month and 8 days. She had been suffering from diphtheria, but the treatment had been effective and she was apparently well on the way to recovery when she suffered a relapse, and her death followed in a few hours, the sufferer’s heart having become affected. Fern was a pupil in the tenth grade of the Geneva high school. She was a bright and loveable girl who carried sunshine wherever she went. Her sudden death was a great shock to her schoolmates as well as to her own family. She was an active member of the United Brethren Church, and will be greatly missed in the Sunday school, Christian Endeavor and other departments of church work. She is survived by her father, mother, two brothers and one sister. Because of the nature of the disease, the funeral was private. It took place at the Geneva Cemetery at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon with a very brief service. A hymn was sung and Rev. E. R. Baber of the United Brethren Church offered prayer.
