She died Friday, Sept. 20, 1985, at the Bloomfield Care Center. She attended the Floris Public Schools, the Eldon High School, and the Southern Iowa Normal. She was employed as a bookkeeper and clerk until 1943 when on February 27 she was united in marriage to Guy L. Pettit by Rev. C.W. Cornn at Moberly, Mo. Mr. Pettit died April 14, 1970. She became a member of the Floris Christian Church in 1910 and later, transferred her membership to the Bloomfield Christian Church. She was a 60-year and charter member, past unit president and district committee woman of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a 50-year member of Friendship Chapter Order of the eastern Star and a member of the Past Matrons Club. She was a charter member and past president of Chapter Q of the T.T.T. Society. Ferne helped organize the national auctioneers auxillary and was a life member of that organization. She is survived by a brother, Joe Stark and wife, Reola, Joe's son Charles and family of Wichita, Kansas, step-daughter-in-law Freda and her sons, Kim and Roger and their families of Bloomfield, step-daughter-in-law Mary and her daughter, Mary and son, Stephen and family of Wilton, Connecticut. She is also survived by 10 step-great-grandchildren. Also cousins, Willa McBurney of Des Moines, Helen Aeschliman of Bloomfield, Martha Blair of Cantril and Laverne Younkin of Bloomfield. Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 23, 1985, at the Priester Funeral Chapel, Bloomfield; conducted by the Rev. Don Macy. Burial was in the IOOF Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Bloomfield Christian Church.
