Description	:	Flavian "Slim" Hoch was born March 22, 1921, at Bauer, Iowa; the eighth of ten children born to Cletus and Veronica Hoch. He died on September 19, 2021, at the Knoxville Hospital at the age of 100 years and 6 months, as a consequence of covid. On October 10, 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He served until his discharge on November 29, 1945. Following his discharge, he and his brother bought the Phillip 66 service station in Melcher, Iowa. They operated it until they sold it in 1960. He then worked at the VA Hospital in Knoxville, Iowa, until he retired in September of 1985. In 1947, he married Josephine (Jody) White. They had 2 daughters, Lynnette and Cheryl. He was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Melcher. Over the years he gave many hours of service to the church. He served as a trustee, parish council member, and on various committees. He served on the school board, the city council, and was a long-time member of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Jody; daughters, Lynnette (Ron) Jensen of West Des Moines and Cheryl (Eric Evans) Hoch of Cedar Rapids; grandsons, Jason Obirek of Scottsdale, AZ and Nick (Shelli) Obirek of Ocala, FL; great grandchildren, Aldyn Sheridyn and Nolan Obirek; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Johnny Obirek; sisters: Marcella, Laureen, Geneva, Eleanor, and Ivola; brothers: Norbert, Virgil, Gilbert, and Claude.
