FLORA B SYLVESTER was born in Fremont Township, Fayette, Iowa Sept 25th, 1869, and died May 10th, 1916 in Hotchkiss, Colorado. Sept 25th 1891 at the old farm home in Fremont she was married to Savert Sylvester a young man of sterling worth and strong loving christian character. We remember Flora as a sunny natured blue eyed golden haired child we watched her developed into the winsome maiden, the faithful student, the tactful efficient teacher. Later as wife and mother her love and devotion were absolutely ideal. She was a good neighbor, a loyal friend, a peacemaker, a wise councilor, a gracious cultivated noble woman in worlds. It is in the hearts of those who have known her best that her memory will ever remain as a fragrance from Eden. Flora was the daughter of Richard P and Delphine E Baxter, both well known and well beloved throughout the country side where the many years they have made their home. Both lines of her ancestry Flora received the priceless heritage of fine, brave, strong character. There was something of the heroine in the pioneer strain bequeathed to her, tho so gentle and compliant in non essentials she was gifted with quiet yet indomitable force where matters of principle where concerned. This quality, un-guessed by the casual observer perhaps was such that it would have stained her unflinching at the stake in olden times. It made her infuential in social relations, with the members of her family her brothers and sisters, her opinions the so unostentatiously expressed held all the force of law, coupled with her devoted love for family and her desire to live for the good that she could do to those about her, this quality has long helped her to overcome physical disabilities. Mrs. Sylvester lived in her affections, she loved truly and will and she possessed in a marked degree the power of winning love. Thus it was no sacrifice for her husband to devote himself to her as he has done since her failing health made changes of climate necessary and it was no sacrifice for her young son to give up his college life and accompany her when it became necessary for her to go to Colorado before it was possible for the rest of the family to go. Such love as Flora drew made it the supreme joy of husband and children to minister to her. Few mothers can truly say as did this one recently. "Daughters you have never caused me one moments unhappiness and to few daughter is left the comfort of remembering such words where the mother lips are forever stills. The tender affections and sympathy that have united the family and made their home life so beautiful as always been a matter of comment and pleasure to those about them. When in the new Colorado home it was felt and hosts of friends were drawn to them, such home life was Mrs. Sylvester inspired and directed is up-lifting to all who came within the circle of its influence. In the old family bible a little verse written by Flora to her own parents after they had passed beyond was found: Could we send to them one message ...........Could the angels whisper loud... just one thought from earth to heaven...It is this we love you. To Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester were born four children, Olive, Paul, Richard and Ruth, thos with her husband, her brothers and one sister and other relatives with many friends are left "for a little while". Today and alway they bless her memory. Words written of her mother a short time ago are equally applicable to Flora. "She was a good woman. She has lived a sweet noble and useful life. She has entered now within the vale and sees the dear Christ face to face and fear is gone, if fear sh ever ever knew, and faith is knowledge now and all is well with her. And though for all her loved one dear the night is dark and home seems distant far and the days will sadly limp along on dull laden feet; it is not so with her. The close of such a life is like the setting of the morning star that sweetly fades among the crimson glories of the early dawn into the full orbed splendor of the new and glorious day and in the place of the grief shadowed present for those dear ones that she has left behind, there shall be a present in whose reign no grief shall gnaw the heart and never shall a tender tie be broken. (written and read by her aunt, Mrs. Len Kamanski at her funeral in Murphy Church Sunday afternoon. She was laid at rest in Greenwood Cemetery.
