Adams County Free Press - Wednesday, April 12, 1916 - Corning, United States Of America Again the grim reaper, death, has been in our midst and taken a sweet and innocent young life. Flora Elsie Johnson died Saturday, April 8th, at 9 o’clock at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Johnson. She was born August 14, 1901, near Prescott, and was aged 14 years, 7 months, and 25 days. Although Elsie had been sick for some time, there were no fears as to her recovery, except for a day or two. She had whooping cough and pneumonia. She was a very bright, loveable child, always had a winning smile. She went to school as long as her health would permit, and loved her Sunday school. The funeral services were held at the home, conducted by Rev. Jasper Weber. A quartette furnished music. A large crowd of sympathizing friends paid the last tribute of respect to the loved one. Six of her Sunday schoo class were the pallbearers and sang two songs at the close of the services. She loves a broken hearted father and mother and one brother. A baby brother was buried in January. The floral offerings were very beautiful and covered the casket as it was lowered by her loving friends. Those who attended the funeral from out of town were Mrs. Ruth Florence, Broadland, S.D.; Mrs. Edith Young, Beatrice, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. George Carey and two daughters of Lorimore; Mr. and Mrs. B.U. Alteffer, Mr. and Mrs. J.N. Johnson, Theo. Kernan, all of Red Oak; Mr. Ira Hazelton, Braddyville, Iowa; Mrs. Hattie Long, of Clarinda, and John and Gerand Hyda, of Gravity, Iowa. Adams County Free Press - Wednesday, April 12, 1916 - Corning, Iowa Flora Elsie Johnson died Saturday at her home near Prescott, following whooping cough and pneumnia. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the home, the services being conducted by Rev. Jasper Weber, pastor of the Prescott Methodist Church. Interment was made in Evergreen Cemetery. Deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Johnson and was aged 14 years, 7 months, and 25 days. Contributor: Diane Decker
