Their son Lloyd Elmer Johnson was born December 29, 1915, and died February 14, 1916, aged 6 weeks. He died of complications of the measles. On April 8, 1916, their fourteen-year-old daughter, Flora Elsie Johnson died of complications of measles and whooping cough. On November 19, 1917, their only living child, nineteen-year-old William Claude Newton Johnson, died of complications of the measles in the solders’ barracks at Camp Mills, Long Island, New York, where he was awaiting transport to the war in Europe. The three deaths so close together were devastating. Then, miraculously, they had another baby, son Charles Thomas Johnson on January 10, 1919. And that baby died on April 6, 1919. Johnson, 66, of Prescott, retired farmer and storekeeper, died at 7:15 this morning at the Jennie Edmundson hospital in Council Bluffs from heart disease. He had been in ill health for the past year. Mr. Johnson was born July 18, 1874 in Clarke County, the son of Mr. and Mrs. I. Newton Johnson. He was married in Prescott on February 17, 1897 to Lulu A. Wilson, who survives. He formerly lived at Stanton before coming to Prescott. Mr. Johnson retired in 1937. He was a member of the M.W.A. and Yeoman lodges. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Basil Altaffer of Red Oak and Mrs. Elmer Spicer of Battle Ground, Washington, and a brother, Willis Johnson of Excelsior Springs, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at the home in Prescott at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in charge of the Rev. E. E. Lister of Creston. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery there.
