She was 53 years, 2 months and 11 days of age and had returned from a Sioux City hospital two weeks before after being in the hospital for about three weeks following a serious operation. A resident of the Anthon community most of her life, Florence Davis was born in Woodbury County near Anthon, December 9, 1888, to Jim and Martha Davis. She was the sixth of eight children and grew to womanhood in the Lucky Valley community. She lived near Holly Springs for a few years during her girlhood. After graduating from the old Anthon Public School in 1907, she attended summer school at Morningside College and the following fall began a very successful teaching career of 15 years. The deceased taught in South Dakota, Montana and Iowa. While in Montana she homesteaded with her family in the pioneer way. Florence Davis was married to Charlie Bennett at the First Methodist parsonage in Sioux City June 28, 1922. during her married life she lived in the Anthon community. Her family consisted to four daughters: Margie, Myrna, Neola and Charlene. The survivors include her husband, four daughters, one sister, Mrs. Rosa Brown of Milbank, South Dakota; three brothers, Ross O. Davis of Clark South Dakota; Ray E. Davis of Wagner, South Dakota and Frank Davis of Mason City. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Anthon Methodist Church with Rev. Clayton B. Wittstruck, pastor, conducting last rites. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery under direction of Hudgel's Funeral Service.
