Housel, 82, of Lewistown, died Saturday morning at the Central Montana Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Housel was born Jan. 21, 1898, at Cokedale, the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. William E. Phillips. She attended grade school at Cokedale, Miles City and Missoula. She moved to Lewistown with her parents in 1912 and attended Fergus High School and the Edwards Business School. On July 26, 1918, she was united in marriage to Ferman P. Housel, Jr. in Lewistown. Housel preceded her in death in 1978. In June of 1917, Mrs. Housel went to work for Montana Bell as a telephone operator. She held this position for 34 years. She retired in 1962 as a chief operator, having been appointed to this position in 1944. After her retirement, Mrs. Housel continued to make her home in Lewistown. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Lewistown, was secretary of the Anchor Rebecca Lodge No. 55 of Lewistown, Marie Chapter No. 36 Order of the Eastern Star of Lewistown, Bath Zabba Temple No 21, daughters of the Nile of Billings, the Lewistown Woman’s Club, Sherman Circle No 16 Grand Army of the Republic, Friendship Circle of the Presbyterian Church, and the Mountain Bell Pioneers of America. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Peter (Gladys) Teigen of Teigen. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister. Funeral services for Florence E. Housel were held at the Cloyd Chapel today, Wednesday. Rev. Gordon Parke of the First United Presbyterian Church officiated and interment followed in the Lewistown City Cemetery. Friends wishing to do so may make memorials to the Convalescent Relief Fund of the Daughters of the Nile, or the Cardiac Care Unit of the Central Montana Hospital. They may be left at the Funeral Home.
