Description	:	Florence Effie Carlson Falk was born May 5, 1908 in Fremont Township Page County Iowa to Swedish immigrant parents. When approximately 3 years of age her mother died and Florence and her younger sister, LaVerne were taken into separate foster homes. Florence was raised by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Englung. She attended rural school in Page County and high school in Essex, from which she graduated in 1925. Read More	Florence Effie Carlson Falk was born May 5, 1908 in Fremont Township Page County Iowa to Swedish immigrant parents. When approximately 3 years of age her mother died and Florence and her younger sister, LaVerne were taken into separate foster homes. Florence was raised by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Englung. She attended rural school in Page County and high school in Essex, from which she graduated in 1925. She attended college at Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, and the University of Colorado at Boulder, Colorado. She taught rural schools in Page county, Yorktown public school and Essex public school. On Midsummer's Day, June 24, 1939 she was married to Byron Falk. They are the parents of Karenann Falk Manley and Bruce Falk. They have three grandsons. She has been active in many church, community and state and worldwide organizations including Lutheran Church Women, Farm Bureau, Altrusa, Business and Professional Women, Federated Women's Club, American Women in Radio and Television, Toastmistress Club, Associated Country Women of the World. In 1967 she was a nominee for Iowa Mother of the Year and was selected to receive the merit award. She has conducted scores of workshops and seminars in both Christian and secular education and served on many boards for various educational institutions. Her radio homemaker's program was broadcast from her farm home for many years until her health failed. Preceding her in death were her parents. She is survived by her husband Byron; son Bruce of Joliet, Illinois; daughter Karenann Manley of Essex; three grandsons: Eric, Wayne and Scott Manley all of Essex; one sister Mrs. George ( LaVerne) Ellyson of New Castle, Nebraska; and a number of other relatives both in Sweden and the U.S.A. She died May 12, 1983 at the Vista Gardens Nursing Home in Red Oak following a lengthy illness. She was 75. Services were held May 14 from St. John's Lutheran Church Essex, with the Rev. John M. Leaf and Rev Robert D. Bartlett officiating. Soloist was Mrs. John Liljedahl and organist, Mrs. John Malloe. Ushers were Riley McClintock and LeRoy Sar. Bearers included Wayne Almquist, Donald Anderson, Raymond Holmes, Glenn Patterson, LaVern Patterson and Kenneth Rydberg. On the floral committee were Mr and Mrs. Gordon Hogberg, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl A. Johnson. Mrs. Raymond Holmes attended the memory register and Mrs. Anton Anderson and Mrs. Donald Anderson were in charge of memorials Interment was at the Essex cemetery.
