She was the youngest child of Alonzo and Lizzie Overturf, and has lived her entire life in and near this place, so she is well known and greatly beloved by the people of this community. She was the youngest child of Alonzo and Lizzie Overturf, and has lived her entire life in and near this place, so she is well known and greatly beloved by the people of this community. On June 15, 1910, Florence was united in marriage to J. M. Hewett and faithfully did she manage the household and care for and love the two step-children, Everett and Madeline, until sickness made her home tasks impossible. When Florence was a young girl she gave her heart to the Lord, and joined the United Brethren Church, but at her request she afterward became a member of the Church of Christ here, so she and her husband could serve together in church relations. Florence had no children of her own, but she had a large measure of mother love in her make-up, which manifested itself in devotion and loving deeds in her nieces and nephews and their children and their children, and to her two step-children. Particularly was this true in the case of Bernice Overturf Wilder, whose mother passed away when Bernice was but an infant and who was afterward raised in the Overturf home where Florence was the real housekeeper, because of the helplessness of Mrs. Overturf. Florence was an exceptionally good daughter and the last years of her father and mother's lives were made more pleasant and comfortable by her constant care and attentions, although these were often rendered when her own health was a serious question. She was a disposition which dreaded to hurt the feelings of any, but her love of right compelled her to take a seand on that side regardless of the opinions of those who differed. Florence was identified with several societies of a religious nature, the C. W. D. M., the F. F. M. societies and the W. C. T. U. For several years she held the office of Flower Mission superintendent in the Butler county W. C. T. U. In all these societies and in the church she was a faithful and dependable member and her loss will be keenly felt. For many years, Florence has had poor health, but just after New Years her condition became much more serious, and her husband took her to Waverly and then Rochester hoping to find relief, but to no avail. She has been confined to her bed since the middle of January, hovering many times between life and death, but on March 16, at !:30, the messenger called and carried the tired spirit home to it's God, after an earthly existence of 49 years, 2 months and 28 days. She leaves to mourn her going, her husband, J. M. Hewett, two step-children, Everett Hewett, of this place, and Mrs. Madeline Brown, of Waterloo; her niece, whom she raised, Mrs. Bernice Wilder, one sister, Mrs. Mary Hutchison, Dumont; three brother, Charles of Dumont, and Alpha and Arthur Overturf, of Bristow. Besides the above there are many nieces and nephews and other relatives who will miss the loved one who has gone to the homeland. Funeral services were on Wednesday at the Christian church. Rev. J. E. Miller was in charge, and was assisted by Rev. C. S. Cowen, a quartet of Mrs. Hewett's own selection, with Mrs. C. S. Stewart at the piano sang her favorite songs. The pallbearers, Everett Hewett, John Fisks, Ray Hahn, Al Wendt, Harry Banks, and Everett Hutchison, near relatives, were also chosen by the deceased, which previously arranged plans for her funeral were carried out in detail. Interment was at Oak Hill. Dear faithful Florence: We are missing you sadly today. As the arms of our dear loving Saviour bear you tranquilly over the way.
