Read More	Obituary for Mrs. Jacob Burkhart From The Woodward Enterprise, Woodward, Iowa - April 28, 1932 Funeral service for Peoples Township pioneer lady held last Thursday afternoon The death of Mrs. Jacob Burkhart removes from Peoples township one of its three oldest citizens, both in age and continuous residents. The two remaining are her husband and Capt. Marion Brooks. She taught school for two terms at Excelsior school years ago, and during that time she lived with Mrs. and Mrs. H.P. Calonkey. Three of her pupils were Willliam, Alfred, and Ella Wade, who have long been actively identified with the life of this community. Mrs. Burkhart became a member of the Peoples Baptist Church in l883, and it was from this church that her funeral service was held Thursday, April 21, at 2 o'clock. The service was in charge of Rev. F.A. Smith of the Woodward M.E. Church, who also preached the sermon. Rev. Chas. Anderson, retired minister, of Minburn, assisted in the service. Rev. Anderson served this community as pastor forty-seven years ago. A mixed quartet, composed of Mrs. D.W. Gardiner, Mrs. Sadie Muncy, Wm. M. Wade, and O.C. Miller, sang three numbers: "Asleep in Jesus," "Beautiful Beckoning Hands," and "We'll Never Say Goodbye in Heaven." The casket bearers were A.A., A.E., Austin, D. L., Raymond, and Otho Burkhart. Interment was made in Peoples Cemetery. Florence Emogene Miller was born August 21, 1853, in Stockbridge, Calumet County, Wisconsin, and came with her parents to a homestead at Brooklyn, Iowa, the following year. At the close of the Civil War, they moved to Boonesboro, Iowa. She was converted at the age of 15 years under the preaching of Rev. Browning, in a revival at Putnam Schoolhouse, Peoples Township, Boone County, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Jacob Burkhart March 31, 1874. To this union were born nine children; two, Robert Joseph and Florence Eleanor, preceded her in death. She departed this life April 19, 1932, at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 28 days, and leaves to mourn her passing a faithful husband, seven children - Harvey Walter, Josiah Harold, Mrs. L.L. Davisson (Viola Elizabeth), Mrs. C.A. Bice (Celia), Mrs. Eldon Bice (Mildred), all of Woodward, Iowa, Mrs. E.M. Wernli (Charlotte) of Yale, Iowa, and Mrs. Frank Kling (Fanny) of Harrison, Arkansas - also one sister Mrs. M.M. Cooney of Coon Rapids, Iowa, and numerous other relatlives and a host of friends. In addition to her own children, she was a true, devoted mother to her husband's two children by a former marriage, Malachi and Louisa, and two of his grandchildren, Hallie and Keith Spurrier. A student of the Bible, she zealously lived according to its precepts, a true, devoted Christian. When taken sick shortly before her death she said, "My work is finished, I am ready to go, why should I stay longer?"
