She was born Sept. 25, 1913, in Wapello County; to Charles Raymond and Tressie Susan Carter Young. She married Lawrence James Nelson, Sr., May 22, 1932 in Unionville, Mo. He died July 30, 1960. She married Lawrence James Nelson, Sr., May 22, 1932 in Unionville, Mo. He died July 30, 1960. A resident of Ottumwa all her life, she worked at Younkers Department Store in Ottumwa 34 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of Davis Street Christian Church and Christian Women Fellowship. Surviving is a son, Lawrence Nelson, Jr. of Palm Desert, Calif., a daughter, Lois Nelson of Ottumwa; three grandchildren, Julie Melendy, Douglas Nelson and Jill Nelson, all of California; four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and a brother, Arthur D. Young of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse Earl Young and infant brother Russell Young and two sisters, Sadie Benson and Edna Larsen. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Davis Street Christian Church with Rev. Dan French officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. today at the Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. A memorial has been established to Davis Street Christian Church.
