(Ole) Nelson, Sr., 51, of 168 North Ransom street, died suddenly Saturday at 7:30 p.m., at his home. He had been employed in the accounting department of John Deere Ottumwa Works for 15 years. He was graduated from the Ottumwa high school in 1926, where he was active in basketball and football. He attended Iowa Wesleyan college at Mt. Pleasant for two years. He had just returned from a three-week vacation in Whittier, Calif. The son of John Wallace and Mary E. Johnson Nelson, he was born in Ottumwa on April 16, 1909, and had lived here all his life. He was married at Unionville, Mo., on May 22, 1932, to Florence Young, who survives. Mr. Nelson was a member of the Davis Street Christian church for over 40 years, a member of the Kum-bak class of the Sunday school and a deacon of the church at the time of his death. Surviving besides his wife are a son, Lawrence Nelson, Jr., of Whittier, Calif.; a daughter Lois Jean Nelson at home; a granddaughter, Julie Diane Nelson of Whittier, Calif.; his mother, Mrs. Mary Nelson of Ottumwa, and a sister, Mrs. Ida Morton of St. Clair Shores, Mich. He was preceded in death by his father, J.W. (Wally) Nelson, who died Dec. 31, 1952. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson funeral home with Charles L. Holland officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Dale, George Kostas, Papul Matthew, Merrill Miller, Gene Sigman and William Staebler.
