Description	:	Florence L. Johnson, of rural Esmond and Maddock, N.D., passed away Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011, at the Heart of America Medical Center Long Term Care in Rugby, N.D., at the age of 91 years. Florence Luella Olson was born July 19, 1920, on the family farm in Wells County, near Heimdal, to Thorvald and Betsy (Fossen) Olson. She was raised there and also in Isabel Township, near Esmond. Read More	Florence L. Johnson, of rural Esmond and Maddock, N.D., passed away Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011, at the Heart of America Medical Center Long Term Care in Rugby, N.D., at the age of 91 years. Florence Luella Olson was born July 19, 1920, on the family farm in Wells County, near Heimdal, to Thorvald and Betsy (Fossen) Olson. She was raised there and also in Isabel Township, near Esmond. Florence attended the Isabel School. At a very young age, she worked for threshing crews as a cook and babysat for her neighbors' twins. Florence married Norris B. Johnson on Dec. 20, 1940, in Esmond. The couple lived on the Johnson farm for more than 61 years. Norris passed away June 3, 2002. Florence then moved into Maddock. On July 19, of this year, she was hospitalized in Rugby and became a resident of the Heart of America Medical Center's Long Term Care. Florence enjoyed reading magazines, crocheting, quilting, cooking, baking, playing cards, bingo and playing the piano by ear. Florence especially enjoyed her family, and visiting with friends and neighbors. Lunch was always on at the Johnsons'. Florence is survived by: five sons, Merwyn (Barbara) Johnson, of Cando, Glen (Judy) Johnson, of Jamestown, N.D., Darrell (Elvina Engstrom) Johnson, of Leeds, Jerry (Bonnie) Johnson, of Esmond, and Lanny Johnson, of Baker; five daughters: Betty (Marlo) Bergsgaard, of Finley, N.D., Noreen (Bill) Wright, of Spanaway, Wash., Kathy (Dave) Bjornstad, of Grand Forks, Deanna Head and companion, Darrel Gotvaslee, of Norwich, N.D., and Lori (Doran) Nelsen, of Surrey, N.D.; 22 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joy Sylling of Sheyenne, N.D., and Alice Lee of Renton, Wash. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four grandchildren, Robbie Ness, Jerad and Jeremiah Johnson and an infant grandson; a great-grandson, Chase Cadwell; five sisters, Tillie Toso, Evelyn Olson, Twyla Olson, Doris Blomster and Dallas Hillestad; two brothers, Edwin Olson and Stanton Olson; a son-in-law, Gary Ness; and a daughter-in-law, Lois Johnson. Funeral services: Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at 11 a.m., in Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Esmond, N.D. Burial: Church cemetery. Prayer Service: Today, Oct. 6, 6:30 p.m., at the funeral home.
